We would like to thank our EV driver community for practising good charging etiquette, such as moving your EV promptly once the charging session is completed. This helps to reduce waiting times, deter hogging and ensure a more pleasant charging experience for everyone.
With more EVs on the roads and growing demand for charging resources, it is increasingly important to keep our chargers accessible so that more drivers can charge when they need to.
To support this, we will be updating our idle fee structure from 5 September 2026.
- Revised timing
- Before 5 September 2026: 9:00 AM and 11:00 PM daily, except at petrol stations where idle fees will apply all day.
- From 5 September 2026: 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, except at petrol stations where idle fees will apply all day.
Push notifications will continue to be sent via the SP app once your charging session ends. There is a grace period of 30 minutes for you to move your EV from the charging lot.
- Increase in locations
Idle fees are applicable at all HDB locations and all petrol stations, as well as selected locations indicated in the SP app.
We hope these changes will continue to encourage gracious charging etiquette, improve charger availability and enhance user experience. Let’s all do our part by adopting good charging habits and keep EVeryone moving!

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are idle fees?

From 5 September 2026, idle fees will apply between 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, except at petrol stations where idle fees will apply all day.
3. Do idle fees apply to all SP Mobility’s chargers?

4. Is there a grace period before the idle fee is imposed?
Yes, there is a 30-minute grace period which starts once your charging session is completed.
5. When is the charging session complete?
The charging process is completed when the charging has stopped, and the vehicle no longer draws power from the charger. The charging may be stopped by (a) the user; (b) the vehicle; or (c) the charger. When charging stops, your vehicle may or may not be 100% charged at that point in time. Please keep a lookout for push notifications from the SP app, as they will inform you when your charging session is complete.
6. What is the idle fee rate?
The idle fee is charged at $0.50 per minute. It will apply if the EV remains plugged in after the 30-minute grace period.
7. Is there a maximum cap on the idle fee charged?
Yes, there is a maximum cap of $40 per session, equivalent to 80 minutes. A user who is charged $40 is someone whose charging session has completed, leaves the EV plugged in for the 30-minute grace period and continues to leave the EV charging lot for at least another 80 minutes.
8. How will I be billed for the idle fee?
The idle fee will be billed through the same payment method used for EV charging. Please refer to the sample screenshot below for reference. Kindly note that corporate fleet drivers may be required to set up a credit card in the SP app for the payment of idle fees.

9. How do I know when I have incurred an idle fee?
You will receive the following push notifications via the SP app:
- 1st notification when your charging session is complete;
- 2nd notification at the 15-minute interval; and
- 3rd notification at the end of the 30-minute grace period, when idle fees start to apply.
To enable push notifications, please go to your phone settings and look for the SP app. Then, select “Allow Notifications” or “Show Notifications”. The screenshot below shows how this may appear on your phone. As phone settings may vary across different makes and models, the screenshot is for reference only.
10. What if I do not have push notifications activated?
Idle fees will still be applicable. Please enable push notifications for the SP app.
11. Do idle fees apply if there are other EV charging lots still available?
Yes, idle fees are specific to each charging lot.
12. Do idle fees apply while the vehicle is actively charging?
No, an idle fee is only applicable after the charging session is completed. Once the vehicle's charging session is completed, there will be a 30-minute grace period before idle fees start.
13. I started charging at 9:00 PM and the charging session ended at 2:00 AM the next day. I unplugged at 10:05 AM the next day. Will I incur any idle fees?
Yes, idle fees will be applicable for the period of 10:00AM to 10:05 AM. The grace period started at 2:00 AM and ended at 2:30 AM. Idle fees will apply from 10:00 AM onwards.
Note that the above answer is not applicable for petrol stations where idle fees apply all day, 24/7 with no blackout period.
14. I started charging at 10:59 PM and the charging session ended at 2:00 AM the next day. I unplugged at 9:00 AM the next day. Will I incur any idle fees?
No, idle fees will not be applicable in this case except at petrol stations where idle fees apply all day, 24/7 with no blackout period.
15. I unplugged 30 seconds after the grace period ended. Will I incur idle fees?
Yes, one minute of idle fee will be applicable. Please note that our smallest unit of idle fee charging is on a per-minute basis.
16. The clock on my phone is 5 minutes slower than your system's clock. Do I get an additional 5-minute grace period?
No, idle fees are centrally managed by our system and we are unable to accommodate specific instances of timing mismatch on users' phones.
